The Royal Château de Chambord at Chambord, Loir-et-Cher, France, is one of the most recognizable châteaux in the world because of its very distinctive French Renaissance architecture which blends traditional French medieval forms with classical Renaissance structures. The building, which was never completed, was constructed by King Francis I of France. This castle was mentioned in Succession.

After Queen Catherine discovers that not only is her lover Christophe the castle serial killer, but he is also blackmailing her; the Queen decides to try and get rid of him. While Queen Catherine is in her chambers, and sitting at her dressing table she drops her earring; however when she bends down and gets back up...she sees the reflection of Christophe in her mirror, she then turns around and is shocked to see him standing in her room with a smug grin on his face.

The Queen comments that he can't be in her chambers and says something about having her secret passageway sealed tomorrow; Christophe picks up the earring and gives it to her as he says that he needs to talk to her but Catherine snatches the earring back as she says that they have nothing to talk about, however Christophe thinks differently as he says that he thought they had reached an understanding...he doesn't tell anyone about what she did to Claude and she gets to keep the regency.

Christophe further says that Bash has assigned him to the Chateau de Chambord to take care of a wolf infestation on the grounds; Catherine comments that she knows that this is a nasty pack, but Christophe knows that she had a hand in this assignment because she is afraid he will kill again and with him gone she won't have to see it happening under the roof of her own home. Catherine then asks if there is no way he can stop and he admits that there is not; however he declares that though he will enjoy hunting in Chambord...he will miss Catherine, and the Queen looks to be quite afraid as she watches him leave.

Trivia[]

  • Though Francis I built the Chateau as a hunting lodge, it was never completed.
  • The castle remained empty for almost 80 years after the death of Francis I.
