The Riders are a mysterious group of people who go around France on horseback. They go around taking people's souls in exchange for a mark. Although originally offered as a choice, if one doesn't accept they are forced.

- The taking of souls: The riders go around taking the souls of people. It is unknown as to why exactly they do this. However the mark is said to let the devil in. Which is what possessed the shepherd with the mark to murder his family.
