Life and CareerEdit
Rachel Talalay was born to Paul Talalay and Rachel Samuels on 16 August 1958. When she was six the family moved from her native Chicago to Baltimore, where she first met film-maker John Waters and, after graduation from Yale University with a bachelors degree in mathematics, she entered the movie business as a production assistant on his 'Polyester', starring Divine. She was an assistant on the first 'Nightmare Om Elm Street' film , a production manager on the second and producer of three of the four sequels, though to keep it in the family the other was produced by her husband Rupert Harvey. Away from slasher movies she worked on two family entertainments, producing 'The Borrowers' in 1997 and in 2006 directing the television adaptation of 'Wind in the Willows'. In fact since the twenty-first century she has worked exclusively on television, directing, amongst others, episodes of 'Ally McBeal' and 'The Dead Zone'.
